Focus Forward Toward the Goal

By Kevin Fournier, President & Co-Founder

Last month, I stated there is a "leadership revolution" under way in FreeLife. It's a revolution of men and women who have taken up the baton of leadership and refuse to settle for mediocrity. These Revolutionary Leaders are choosing to take charge of their lives and, as a result, will take their FreeLife business to an entirely new level.

It's been said that we are designed to choose but defined by choice. I believe in that so strongly. And as we approach the final 60 days of 2009, our choices during this time will define our leadership, our positive influence on others and impact our momentum unlike any previous 60 days in our history.

If your life is anything like mine, the last 60 days of the year are very busy with family, friends, and holidays. These are certainly joyous times, but at the same time can present some challenges to your business as it becomes difficult to find FreeLife time or to get others' attention to take a look at FreeLife. However, there is one very important principle I've learned over time that has helped me to keep my eyes on the goal and not lose focus. It's a simple concept called Focus Forward. If you were to ask any professional athlete about this fundamental principle, they would simply state: "Where your eyes go, your head goes also; and your body follows where your head goes."

In FreeLife, where we focus our energy and attention either advances us closer toward what we want or distances us from it. The benefits of focusing forward are many.

Here are five of the most important benefits:

  1. Focusing forward enables us to see the outcome and provide hope. Focusing forward is about the bigger "why" in our lives. It's about what we ultimately want to accomplish that provides a clear picture of where we will end up with our FreeLife business. It's about creating a vision for your FreeLife business. This elevates hope in us, provides constant inspiration, and shows others that we are Leaders who are worthy of being followed.
  2. Focusing forward enables us to improve our performance. Focusing forward is about determining what we will accomplish and then planning the route to get there. This results in building momentum and helps our decisions become more deliberate toward achieving our goal.
  3. Focusing forward enables us to overcome time wasters and roadblocks. We all get caught up in preoccupations from time to time. I call them "grass catcher" distractions. Like a yard needing to be mowed, they scream for urgency. They are distracting, habit forming, and a waste of time and energy. Don't confuse activity with productivity!
  4. Focusing forward enables us to raise our level of responsibility. Your best day with FreeLife is the day that you decide your business is your own. You are the CEO and President of your own company. This dramatically affects our attitude, posture, and overall effectiveness. When you truly understand the significance of your FreeLife business, you will grasp the incredible gift of hope you carry each day in your hands, creating a responsibility in yourself to share that gift.
  5. Focusing forward enables us to create team unity. People watch what we do more than listen to what we say. When we focus forward, we naturally become a better Leader and communicator because we realize we can't get there by ourselves. Leadership and focus behind a common mission is what will create that team unity.

The foundation of 2010 lies in our capacity to Focus Forward during the remaining days of 2009. Our focus will be shaped by whom we want to become, where we want to go, and what we want to do in the future. Focus Forward over the next 60 days and lay the foundation for what can be a life-changing 2010 for you, your family, and your Organization.
